Dec. 6, 1943, in The Star: The opportunity to furnish Christmas toys for less fortunate children and at the same time enjoy a good movie will be presented to the youngsters of Anniston on Saturday morning when the 13th annual “Toy Brings Joy” matinee is held at the Ritz Theater. Admission to the show is gained by presentation of a toy – which can be lightly used – all of which will be turned over to the Salvation Army to be cleaned, painted and reconditioned for the needy children of the vicinity.
Dec. 6, 1993, in The Star: The practice routine established and followed for 13 weeks by Oxford High School’s football coaching staff has continued without variance and has produced an unbeaten season, so they figure there’s no reason to change things now. Oxford will use the same routine and do the same things it has since the season began in early September, coach Robert Herring said after the team meeting Sunday evening. “Our kids wouldn’t know what to think if we came out and said we were going to do something different,” he said. Oxford hosts Greenville at Lamar Field later this week for the Class 5A state championship.
