Wednesday’s beans ’n greens ’n other things:
TO TELL THE TRUTH:
In case you missed it, here’s a “clip” from Sunday’s "Meet the Press," hosted by Chuck Todd with Rudy Giuliani the guest:
“It’s somebody’s version of the truth, not the truth,” Mr. Giuliani said of any statements by the president in such an interview.
“Truth is truth,” the show’s host, Chuck Todd, answered.
“No, it isn’t truth,” Mr. Giuliani replied. “Truth isn’t truth.”
But a truth is Giuliani is making a fool of himself in defending President Donald Trump. ’Course The Donald has his moments, too. This from a recent speech:
“Remember, what you’re seeing and hearing is not really happening.”
What we need is another Harry Truman and:
“The Buck Stops Here.”
To say I consider “Give-’em-hell-Harry” one of our five best presidents is really to “tell the truth.”
Oh, one other thing.
On a shelf in my closet, neatly folded, is a T-shirt that reads:
“Dewey Defeats Truman.”
That was the page one headline in the Chicago Tribune back in 1948 ... and we know the Tribune woke up the next morning printed in red ... or it should have been. One of these days when I’m in short supply of words to fill his space (which is often) I’ll tell you the story of my T-shirt.
Didn’t mean to ramble on, but once I get started ...
Q — Why don’t cannibals eat clowns?
A — Because they taste funny.
IF YOU are wondering just how good your dentist is, take a drive on the Model City’s streets. Leighton is a good example — reminds me of those old “rub boards” my grandmother used on wash day.
If you don’t lose a filling or two, give your dentist a raise.
OK, so I’m stretching it a bit ... but not all that much. The city’s infrastructure is changing by its “teeth.”
So ... anybody got a few spare bucks for some paving?
BIRTHDAYS: Aug. 18 — Carla Hollingsworth, Lurlene Landers, and Don Pilcher; Aug. 24 — McKayla Carden.
JENNY HAYS celebrated another birthday (no age here, I ain’t that dumb) back on Aug. 4 and I left her name off the birthday list the last two Wednesdays which is when they appear here.
My apologies Jenny, and I sure hope you had a great one.
Apologies to Terry Roscoe, too.
Terry keeps me posted on birthdays and she’s spot on. I be stupid ... too often.
QUOTABLE: “I’ve noticed that everyone who is for abortion has already been born.” – Ronald Reagan
IN COUNTRY SONG:
“Ain’t but three things in this world that’s worth a solitary dime,
But old dogs and children and watermelon wine.” — Tom T. Hall
FOR THE ROAD:
— I think we missed out on a good president in Ohio Gov. John Kasich.
— I love the old TV shows and thanks to Netflix, I’d forgotten just how good was “The West Wing.”I’m into the second season ... for the second time.
— I’m also addicted to old movies and documentaries on World War II. I know the good guys are going to win and there’s no need to worry.
Thanks for visiting ...
