Police say an Anniston woman stabbed her boyfriend after he choked her during an altercation Tuesday night.

Anniston police Sgt. Kyle Price on Wednesday said a 30-year-old Lincoln man was charged Tuesday night with domestic violence by strangulation. According to the sergeant, the charge followed a physical altercation between the man and his 19-year-old girlfriend of Anniston, at her Willow Pointe Drive home.

Price said the argument started over “relationship problems,” ending with injuries to both the boyfriend and the girlfriend. The boyfriend reportedly choked the girlfriend during the fight, and she later stabbed him with a knife, Price said. Police records Wednesday showed the woman was arrested on a charge of first-degree assault, but court records later show the charge was later changed to second-degree assault.

The man was taken to the hospital for treatment Tuesday night and did not sustain life-threatening injuries, according to Price.

Both suspects were booked at the Calhoun County Jail Tuesday night. Each was released on a $15,000 bond.

The Anniston Star typically withholds the names of domestic violence victims.
