A Woodland man was in the Calhoun County Jail on Tuesday, charged in an Anniston shooting that sent another man to the hospital on Thursday, police said.
Anniston police arrested 23-year-old Julio Cesan Carmona at the Calhoun County Jail on Monday on a charge of first-degree assault, Sgt. Kyle Price said on Tuesday. Carmona had been arrested on unrelated charges on Monday and Anniston police were notified of his arrest, Price said.
Police responded to a local hospital Thursday afternoon after hospital staff called to report a gunshot victim had come for treatment, Price said.
“He was shot in the neck,” the sergeant said. “He’s out of the hospital now.”
The 34-year-old victim, of Anniston, told police he’d gotten into a dispute with an acquaintance, whom he identified to police as Carmona, in an alleyway near the 800 block of Wilmer Avenue, the sergeant said.
“The acquaintance pulled a firearm and shot him,” Price said. Carmona then fled the scene, the sergeant said.
Carmona is being held on a $15,000 bond for the assault charge and has a preliminary hearing scheduled April 9 at 1:30 p.m., according to his arrest report.
