An Oxford police officer was injured in a crash with a drunk driver Wednesday night, police said.

Capt. L.G. Owens said Michael Caleb Yates, 26, of Anniston, struck the officer’s patrol car, a Chevy SUV, from behind on U.S. 78 W. just after 7 p.m. Wednesday. Owens declined to provide the make and model of Yates’ vehicle.

The officer was taken to Regional Medical Center in Anniston and Yates was taken into custody and charged with driving under the influence.

Yates remained in the Oxford Jail on Thursday afternoon, with bond set at $500.

Of the officer, Owens said Thursday, “He was treated and released and is recovering at home now.”
