Man charged in Oxford woman’s death

Police on Friday said an Anniston man was in custody in connection with the Thursday shooting death of an Oxford woman in Saks.

Anniston police Sgt. Kyle Price identified the suspect as 29-year-old Robert Lee Jenkins. Calhoun County Jail’s online inmate roster on Friday afternoon showed Jenkins in custody, charged with “homicide strong arm.” No information on his bond was available.

Amanda Nicole Kirby, 37, was killed in the shooting. Calhoun County coroner Pat Brown said Kirby was found in the roadway on the 2200 block of Winchester Avenue at 4:45 a.m. Thursday.

The exact time of Kirby’s death had not been released Friday. Kirby’s body was taken to Huntsville for autopsy.

Price said police would publish a news release when investigators gathered more detail.
