Deputies on Thursday charged an Oxford man with assault after, they say, he shot another man at a home on Airport Road in Oxford.
Calhoun County Sheriff Matthew Wade said deputies responded to an emergency call at about 4 p.m. Wednesday in which a 26-year-old man was in his car when someone shot into it six times, hitting the victim once in the lower leg.
Wade said the victim identified the suspect, and deputies located and arrested 25-year-old Lazar Javon Barclay within 24 hours of the crime.
Wade said the victim told investigators the dispute with the attacker was over “some property,” but the sheriff, who was not at the office Friday, didn’t know the exact type.
Barclay was in the Calhoun County Jail Friday afternoon, charged with first-degree assault with a bond set at $30,000.
