Anniston police investigating robbery claim

Anniston police were investigating Thursday after a man reported being robbed at gunpoint Wednesday morning.

Sgt. Kyle Price said a 28-year-old man was driving around at 11:30 a.m. in the 3200 block of Old Birmingham Highway when he noticed another car tailgating him and swerving in the lane.

Price said the man claimed he assumed the other driver wanted to pass him, so he pulled over and a masked man got out of the other car, pointed a gun at him and took his grandfather’s money, which he had on him.

Price said Thursday they had not identified the suspect or made any arrests. If a suspect is caught, they could be charged with first-degree robbery.

Under state law, first-degree robbery is a Class A felony, which can result in a life sentence in prison and up to a $60,000 fine upon conviction.
