Anniston police on Tuesday were searching for a suspect in a drive-by shooting that sent one to the hospital, officials said.

Anniston police Lt. Chris Sparks said that police responded to the 1700 block of Moore Avenue around 6 p.m. Monday after a call came into 911 about shots fired.

“A man said he was walking down the road when a vehicle drove by and shot at him,” Sparks said. “He was shot in the leg and taken to Regional Medical Center.”

The lieutenant said the 19-year-old man was shot in the leg but the injury was not life-threatening.

“Two houses were also struck by the gunfire,” Sparks said. “One was occupied and the other was not.”

According to police reports, a window was damaged on a 26-year-old woman’s home and another report for a 72-year-old man’s home did not specify any damage. According to the report that listed the 72-year-old man as a victim, police collected two 9mm casings and a “deformed unknown caliber bullet.”

Sparks said investigators had not interviewed any suspects in the case.

“That will happen pending interviews with the victim and any witnesses,” he said.
