An Anniston man died Sunday morning after he was shot near Oxford in what appeared to be an attempted robbery, officials said. Three people have been charged with murder in the incident.

Authorities got a call about a shooting on Smith Street in Oxford around 10:45 a.m. and discovered 23-year-old Antonio Devaras Swink with a gunshot wound to the chest, Calhoun County Assistant Coroner Jay Bowden said by phone Sunday.

“We received the call from the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office around 11:25 a.m. and pronounced him dead at Northeast Regional Medical Center at 11:45 a.m.,” Bowden said.

Investigators arrested and charged Meghan Ann Jones, 25, and Deanthony Reginald Miller, 21, both Eastaboga residents, as well as 22-year-old Albert Lawrence Edison from Dearmanville with murder, Calhoun County Sheriff Matthew Wade wrote in a news release Monday morning.

Swink was sent to Huntsville for an autopsy, Bowden said Sunday.

Neither Jones, Miller, nor Edison had a court date scheduled or bond set Monday morning.
