An Anniston man was in custody in Etowah County today for an alleged connection with a woman's death and the shooting of another man in Attalla on Wednesday.
According to the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office, Khalil Devadra Smith, 23, of Anniston was arrested in East Gadsden on a traffic stop by a Gadsden police officer. Charges are currently pending against him for his alleged involvement in the shooting death of Cheyenne Humphries, 22, of Attalla and the shooting of Brandon Gipson, 30, of Anniston.
Gipson was being treated at a local hospital, according to the Sheriff’s Office’s statement.
A 911 call was made around midnight on Wednesday, according to the statement, from a Clayton Street residence in Attalla; the caller stated there was an altercation between two men and that shots were fired. Smith allegedly fled the scene before his arrest, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Humphries’ body will be transported to Huntsville for an autopsy.
