ALEXANDRIA — Etowah County’s coroner believes an Alexandria dentist’s death Thursday was related to the flu.
Etowah County Coroner London Pearce said by phone Saturday that 44-year-old Dr. Chris Bittner’s death was likely due to flu related illness.
Pearce said his office has asked for a toxicology analysis of Bittner’s blood to confirm the cause of death, but that won’t be available for 60 to 90 days.
A note was on the door of Alexandria Family Dentistry Saturday, stating that the business was closed due to illness.
Paul Graham who owns Downey Drugs next door to the dentistry said he remembers Bittner fondley.
“I know he was a great dentist. I don’t like going to dentist — with him it was different — he was a great guy. It was a shock to us. We’re going to miss him,” Graham said.
The Alexandria Dentistry Facebook page announced that services will be Sunday at Collier-Butler Funeral Home in Gadsden. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m., with the funeral starting at 2 p.m.
