A Wellington man was killed Monday around noon when a tree he had been cutting fell on him.
According to Calhoun County Coroner Pat Brown, 62-year-old Thomas Eugene Headrick was doing work on Old Downing Mill Road for a commercial tree service when the accident happened. Deputy Coroner Stacy Stone said Headrick had been cutting a tree that didn’t fall all the way down but got stuck in a second tree instead. When that tree was cut, he said, the first one twisted around and fell free, striking Headrick.
Brown said his office was summoned to the scene around 12:09 p.m. and Stone pronounced Headrick dead from blunt force trauma at 12:25 p.m.
