Anniston police on Wednesday were investigating a report of a missing woman, an investigator said.

The 48-year-old woman, identified as Sheila Vandergriff, was last seen at her Wilmer Avenue home on Monday before 2 p.m., according to a police report. She was reported missing Tuesday shortly after noon, Anniston police Sgt. Kyle Price said.

“She attends a local women’s group and she missed a meeting,” Price said. “So someone from the group reported her missing.”

Price declined to specify what women’s group Vandergriff attended.

The police report did not name Vandergriff, but Price confirmed that a message posted on Oxford Police Department’s Facebook page was about the same woman, who they identified.

Oxford police described the woman as about 5 feet, 5 inches tall and about 175 pounds. Efforts to reach Oxford police Chief Bill Partridge on Wednesday were not immediately successful.

Price said an investigator was working on the case, but police did not know Wednesday afternoon if she was in any danger.

“It’s possible she doesn’t want to be found,” Price said. “We have those cases happen frequently. If she’s an adult and she doesn’t want to be found then that is her business.”
