More people have come forward to report thefts of brass vases from graves in a Golden Springs cemetery, but Anniston police have no new arrests in the case.

Since Thursday evening, six people have filed reports alleging that a total of 15 brass vases were stolen from their loved ones’ graves at Forestlawn Gardens on Golden Springs Road, according to police reports.

Those 15 are likely among the more than 100 flower vases police discovered were stolen in Anniston and Oxford last week. Jonathan Miguel Brittain, 36, of Anniston was arrested on one felony theft charge in connection with the case last week, though both Anniston and Oxford police at the time said the investigations were ongoing.

Anniston in recent years has occasionally seen spurts of copper and metal theft, typically closely tied to rising metal prices. Thieves typically sell the stolen items to scrapyards to be melted down.

Anniston police Lt. Chris Sparks said Monday that there were no new arrests over the weekend, though investigators continue to work the case.

Police last week encouraged families with relatives at the cemetery to report thefts if they discover them.
