Jacksonville Christian’s boys take the court tonight at Spring Garden with an all-county-tournament performer in their midst. The participating coaches named senior Reed Murphy as a member of the all-tournament team Saturday night, recognizing the double-doubles he had in JCA’s victory over Jacksonville on Jan. 14 and loss to White Plains on Jan. 16.
The Thunder will meet Sacred Heart in Anniston on Thursday. Both the Spring Garden and Sacred Heart games are Class 1A, Area 10 contests. They complete Jacksonville Christian’s regular-season area schedule.
The Sacred Heart boys are defending Class 1A state champions and are expected to win again this year. Sacred Heart’s boys team was the No. 1 seed in the county tournament but the Cardinals were upset by No. 2 Oxford in the championship game and finished second.
The game with Sacred Heart will be an opportunity for the JCA girls to gain some revenge against the team that upset them in the opening round of the county tournament. A win over the Cardinals would also go a long way toward keeping the Thunder on the opposite side of the Area 10 tournament bracket from defending Class 1A state champion Spring Garden.
Jacksonville Christian closes its regular season next week with three home games. Appalachian comes to Jacksonville on Jan. 30. The following night, JCA entertains Georgia School for the Deaf. The Thunder hosts Gaylesville on Feb. 3.
