The Jacksonville Garden Club met July 16 at the Community Center. Hostess for the meeting was Sandra Kelly. Johanna Kolbert, Donald and Amelia Crow were welcomed as visitors.

Sheila Webb, president of the club introduced Dani Carroll of the Alabama Extension System.

Carroll presented a lively and tasty program about “Cooking with Herbs.” Carroll stated that folks like to grow herbs because they are easily grown. Herbs are grown not only for their culinary and medical attributes but also as host plants for butterflies.

Popular herbs include Parsley, Rosemary, Mint, Basil, Oregano, Dill, Cilantro, Thyme, Tarragon, Chives, Sage, Marjoram, Savory, and Fennel.

Carroll’s daughter, Emma, helped her mother by serving sample biscuits with Rosemary butter and Lemon Thyme cookies which were very tasty!

Lucy Morris passed out copies of herb substitutions.

During the business meeting, Sheila Webb, discussed issues pertaining to the District II meeting of the Alabama Garden Clubs which is hosted by the Jacksonville Garden Club in October.

Other members present were Mary Andrews, Doris Baucom, Klaus Duncan, Lawrence and Nancy Gillespie, Don Judd, Cindii Mitchell, Carolyn Patton, Yun Prater, Constance Sims, and Barbara Tucker.
