K-12 students in Jacksonville will see their holiday extended by an extra couple of days, according to a Tuesday announcement by the school system.

A fire alarm at the city’s elementary school went off Tuesday around 1:45 p.m, and sprinklers drenched the music room and the fourth- and fifth-grade areas.

A Jacksonville firefighter, contacted by telephone Tuesday, said there was no fire at the school.

City schools, which were set to resume class Thursday, will remain closed through the end of the week, according to the announcement made via Facebook and a call to parents. Attempts to reach school officials were unsuccessful Thursday.
