Piedmont officials say reports of an active shooter at a marching band competition were based on a child that had a toy gun at the event Saturday.

“It was a plastic gun, there’s no danger, everything's fine,” said Doris Ingram, a clerk with the Piedmont Police Department.

Ingram said by phone Saturday night that officers had talked to the child, but she didn’t know what further steps might be taken.

According to Ingram, Piedmont’s police chief was out of town Saturday.
