OXFORD — Linebacker Kendall McCallum, an LSU commit and key figure in Oxford High’s defense, is undergoing medical tests and said he will have “heart surgery next Monday” in a Monday evening Snapchat post.
“All prayers needed,” he said in the post.
Oxford coach Ryan Herring said McCallum had “asthma issues” last week, but the seriousness of McCallum’s condition, and whether he will have heart surgery, are unknown.
“If he’s got an issue, he will have,” Herring said. “They may have to put heart cath (catheter) in on Monday. They have a heart monitor on him now. I hope everything is going to be OK.”
In the meantime, Herring said McCallum “is doing fine.”
McCallum will not play in Oxford’s 6A, Region 6 home game against Shades Valley on Friday. His playing status beyond that is unknown, pending learning more about his health.
