Beginning in March, The Anniston Star will cease publishing a print edition on Tuesdays.
Josephine E. Ayers, chairman of Consolidated Publishing Co., called the move a “straightforward business decision.” Advertising and readership in the Tuesday edition has declined, she said. Also factoring into the decision was the cost of newsprint, which has increased by more than 10 percent in recent months. Newsprint is the company’s second-largest corporate expense behind labor.
The final Tuesday print edition will appear on Feb. 27. The newspaper’s website will continue to publish news on Tuesdays as it does throughout the week. Print subscribers enjoy full access to our website and mobile app. For more information, call 256-235-9253 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
The decision to no longer publish a Tuesday edition also applies to Consolidated’s other daily newspaper, The Daily Home.
In a related move, two of Consolidated’s weekly newspapers — The Jacksonville News and The Piedmont Journal — will merge into a single product in April. The first issue of the combined newspaper will appear on April 4. The weekly paper, which will be published on Wednesdays, will cover northern Calhoun County.
