“Quid pro quo” has been on the lips of those in Washington who love posturing in front of media cameras trying to appear more intelligent than the rest of the proletariat, those of us who did not study Latin in school and who actually have to work for a living.

“Quid pro quo’s” first use in the English language was in relation to the dispensing of medicine, where one medicine might be substituted for another, often without the knowledge of those for whom the medicine was intended. Of course, this often led to dire consequences. The concept of quid pro quo quickly spread to other areas, especially into the litigious realm.
