American red wine for America’s holiday

As we approach what will likely be the most subdued July 4th celebration in American history, most — if we are wise — will stay at home in our backyards with friends and family cooking traditional pork, steak, burgers and other things grillable, all the while maintaining the requisite social distancing.

Sweet tea, a cold beer or a glass of red wine will likely be served with our repasts. In this day and age, when cabernet and pinot noir are the darlings of red wine, zinfandel is the perfect accompaniment for traditional July 4th fare because of its versatility and its unique American history.
