We asked readers to share their favorite game day recipes for a chance to win “The All-New SEC Tailgating Cookbook” by the Editors of Southern Living. Our winner is Greg Morgan of Oxford. He and Stacy Tieck of Anniston shared some excellent dips for your next game-watching event.
PEPPER JELLY DIP
“This is my favorite tailgating game day recipe,” said Greg Morgan of Oxford. “Year after year, it is my most requested recipe for our game day spread. The mixture of the sweet pepper jelly, the tangy green onions and the sharp cheese produces a great tasting dip. I was one of those that would never try pepper jelly, but I am glad that I gave it a try. I highly recommend ordering Rose & Ivy Southern Pecan Pepper Jelly for this recipe for the optimum taste; however, any pepper jelly will work.”
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
½ cup mayonnaise
2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, freshly grated is best
½ cup pepper jelly, divided
2 green onions, chopped
8 slices of cooked and crumbled bacon, or equivalent real bacon pieces
6-8 Ritz Crackers, crushed
Ritz crackers for serving
Mix cream cheese, mayonnaise, cheddar cheese, ¼ cup pepper jelly, onions and bacon and pour into a 9-inch pie plate. Top with crackers. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 15 minutes. Drizzle remaining ¼ cup pepper jelly on top. Serve with Ritz crackers.
AVOCADO FETA SALSA
