Looking back on a year that saw a lot of cooking, and more cleaning

There are a lot of words beginning with the prefix “pan,” both good and bad. “Pan” from ancient Greek means “all,” “whole,” “inclusive.” Pandemonium, panhandling, pander and pandemic are among the bad pan- words.

Panera is a good pan- word. Aside from meaning a pane of glass found in a window or door, it can also mean “bread basket,” hence the name for the popular restaurant chain.
