The Shoal Creek Baptist Church sits amid tall trees in Talladega National Forest. The church recently received a new floor and joists along with reinforced rafters in the roof.

TALLADEGA NATIONAL FOREST — Four descendants of the original builders of the 125-year-old Shoal Creek Baptist Church gathered Thursday morning to inspect the restoration efforts recently completed at the hewn-log place of worship.

Nestled deep in the Talladega National Forest and surrounded by towering pines, the sun-dappled church looked the same on the outside, but inside, the structure has a new lease on life.
