Local black, white churches unite for community prayer meeting

Jonathan Timmons and Jay Ammons

Jonathan Timmons, left, and Jay Ammons brought their two churches together for a community prayer service to be held Sunday at Weaver Park.

Earlier this week, pastor James Reed of First Missionary Baptist Church in Anniston was searching for ways to respond to the death of George Floyd at the hands of the police, and the protests over racial injustice that swept the country.

“Initially I was going to get on the horn and call some of our local pastors. We were going to find common ground with our white counterparts and have some solidarity,” Reed said.
