2019: The year’s best albums

I enter each year with open ears and excitement about new music. I’ve worried that I won’t be blown away by new music, but artists haven’t let me down yet. Their work is my reward. Thanks to all the musicians that changed my life the past 12 months.

1. Brent Cobb, “Providence Canyon”: OK, while this album came out in 2018, it was my favorite in 2019 for a multitude of reasons. Great storytelling, tight instrumentation and just the right amount of twang. I caught Cobb’s show at Saturn in Birmingham last year and came away feeling like I just seen a young Merle Haggard before he hit it big.
