“The Anatomy of Desire” by L. R. Dorn, William Morrow, 2021, 320 pages, $27.99

“The Anatomy of Desire,” the debut novel from L. R. Dorn, is at once a clever reworking of a classic American novel and a caustic commentary on contemporary American mores.

This new work’s inspiration is “An American Tragedy,” the well-known work from Theodore Dreiser. First published in 1925, Dreiser’s novel is his fictional account of a notorious 1906 murder case, “the true crime drowning” of Grace Mae Brown by her lover Chester Gillette.
