Michele Miller, Ms. Wheelchair Alabama USA 2020, recently competed in Ms. Wheelchair USA 2020, a national pageant organized by the nonprofit Dane Foundation. The foundation addresses the needs of individuals with disabilities. Miller’s platform includes the desire to have a boundless playground (a playground accessible for all abilities) in every community.
Is there something that is inconvenient for people in wheelchairs that people without wheelchairs take for granted? I was born with spastic cerebral palsy, but I did not begin using a powerchair until 2006 when it became a tool for me to become more efficient in my profession. As a wife and mother with a disability, I have had to find new ways to complete everyday tasks such as cooking, laundry and housekeeping that may be easier for those with no disability.
