Franklin McLain joined the United States Marine Corps when he graduated Anniston High School, and he served for 30 years. He has been awarded a Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service medal, Bronze Star, Navy Achievement medal, Navy Commendation medal and Good Conduct medal. The Calhoun County Veterans Organization selected McLain to serve as the grand marshal for the Veterans Day parade on Nov. 11. 

Why did you join the military — specifically the Marines? The Marines have a strong sense of unity and commitment, and they are focused. That really appealed to me.
