Phillip Tutor: An Alabama firefighter and his Australian mission

OXFORD — Sean Snyder walked through the door and made a beeline for his wife, Autumn. A smile, a hug, a kiss.

Then the parade began.

U.S. Forest Service firefighter Sean Snyder and two of his three children, Madeline, age 8, and Meredith, 4, at Mellow Mushroom in Oxford on Wednesday night. Snyder had just returned from fighting bushfires in Australia, surprising his kids at the restaurant.

Benjamin Covault, 40, a smoke jumper from McCall, Idaho, works to cut down dangerous trees in a hot spot in the Alpine National Park in Australia on Jan. 18. He has 16 years of experience and is normally overseeing operations, but was in Australia is taking down trees.
