Fortunately, my husband and I were able to schedule a last-minute getaway last month to Texas, to see old friends and eat barbecue made from beef.
Unfortunately, because my husband would be coming en route from a business trip, we would have to fly out of different airports.
Fortunately, we were able to schedule our arrivals within two hours of each other.
Unfortunately, there was bad weather in Texas that day.
Fortunately, the tornadoes caused no major damage.
Unfortunately, they did shut down the airport.
Fortunately, my flight was only delayed for four hours.
Unfortunately, my husband’s flight was cancelled.
Fortunately, my husband was able to get a flight out the next day.
Unfortunately, that meant I had to spend the night by myself.
Fortunately, I made it to the hotel before midnight.
Unfortunately, it had been raining all day and the hotel grounds were starting to flood.
Fortunately, my room was upstairs.
Unfortunately, it looked like something out of a 1950s horror movie.
Fortunately, there was a heavy chair I could move in front of the door.
Unfortunately, I didn’t get to sleep until after 1 a.m.
Fortunately, we were able to find a new hotel the next day.
Unfortunately, it rained all that day, too.
Fortunately, I had brought a raincoat.
Unfortunately, we were awakened in the middle of the night because rain was dripping from the ceiling of our new hotel room.
Fortunately, we were able to put the ice bucket under the drip and go back to sleep.
Unfortunately, the next morning they tested the hotel fire alarms.
Fortunately, they were able to move us to a new room.
Unfortunately, the storm that had shut down the airport also dropped the temperature from the 70s to the 30s.
Fortunately, my raincoat is also my winter coat.
Unfortunately, my husband hadn’t packed any warm clothes.
Fortunately, the freezing rain just missed us.
Unfortunately, we spent 28 hours of our vacation in airports.
Fortunately, we made it home without incident.
Unfortunately, now we need a getaway to recover from our getaway.
