Cleburne County hosts its annual “Rumble in the Jungle” wrestling tournament Saturday at the high school gymnasium. Each year, the tournament is the biggest fundraiser for the wrestling program.
Coach Rusty Mayfield said Wednesday that in addition to the Cleburne County Tigers he expected teams from Alexandria, Lincoln, North Jackson, Ohatchee, Oxford, Pell City, Piedmont, Ranburne, Saks, Talladega, Weaver and Wellborn.
The Tigers will be represented in the varsity competition by Anthony Champions (106-pound class), Brennan Butler (113), Dylan Turner (120), Matt Williamson (126), Hunter Beason (132), Preston Jarrell (138), Zac Williamson (145), C.J. Higgins (152), Tyler Higgins (160), Cade Smith (170), Wes Salter (182), Christian Seale (195), Ryan Day (220) and Brandon Rogers (heavyweight).
Cleburne County’s junior varsity team will include Dillon McNeese (106), Braxton Day (113), Landon Poore (126), Ethan Holt (138), Kyler Moore (152), Michael Sheffield (160), Zac Salter (170), Russell Clanton (170), Eli Brown (182) and Valick Nolen (195).
The “Rumble” will begin at 9 a.m.
