This photograph of Cathedral Rock was taken at Oak Creek near the town of Sedona, Ariz. Sedona is famous for its red rock. The formations are sandstone, and the sandstone is filled with iron oxide. As the sandstone was being worn away by water the iron oxide formed rust, making them red in color.
