Summer in the South NEXT | START OVER | PREVIOUS Cicada larva shell. There are over a hundred different species of the Periodical Cicada. I have seen only two shells in my yard this year, but, as a child, we used to see hundreds of them every 13 to 17 years on the sides of the large cedar trees in the yard of my grandmother.
