Summer in the South NEXT | START OVER | PREVIOUS
A teneral two-striped forceptail, Aphylla williamsoni [this is a tentative I.D.]. A teneral is one that has just emerged and is in the process of transforming from its larval stage to an adult. This one is relatively far along in the process but is still much lighter in color than it will be when it finishes. At present, the eyes look like they have some sort of clear plastic film but that will change. They look much different when they finish the transformation process than they do at this intermediate stage.
