Anniston Star Walking Tour
18. Paper storage
The Star buys paper by the ton, not by the roll. Don't ask how many days one of these rolls will last; it takes several rolls this size to print one edition. The weight of the roll varies according to the thickness of the paper, and the rolls come in different widths depending on the dimensions of the publication. That's Marty Smith flexing his muscles by pushing the rolls around. One benefit of the new press is its capability to paste the end of one roll to the beginning of the next while the press is running. That cuts paper waste, but it has eliminated the "end rolls" The Star used to give away.
