15. Pre-press
After the ads and the articles are on the pages, the last step before printing is called pre-press. This is the critical phase in which digital files that make up completed pages are converted to images and printed to film as negatives. The negative images are then etched photographically onto metal plates, which are mounted on the press. Here Johnny Galloway, left, and Production Manager Jerry Thornton set up the digital image setters which make the conversion from computer file to film.
