Murphy Priestley celebrated his first anniversary as preacher at Alexandria Road Church of Christ in Jacksonville last month. His first preaching position was at the same church, back in 1981.

After training under Tom Moody at Alexandria Road Church, Priestly studied and preached in North Carolina and Washington. He led a church in Polkton, N.C., for 19 years, before returning home to Alabama in 2003.

When he returned to Alexandria Road Church last year, he was pleased to find some things hadn’t changed. John and Jean Coger were members of the congregation in 1981, when Priestley began his training, and are still there today.

“I am encouraged to see how the congregation has managed to continue meeting despite the fact that, due to job changes and students completing their education, the membership numbers have gone up and down,” Murphy said.

Alexandria Road Church of Christ is at 1100 Jacksonville-Alexandria Highway, 256-847-4090 or 256-738-3661.
