An Anniston man is in police custody Monday after he was arrested on charges of assaulting a Regional Medical Center employee.

Adam Glenn Metzler, 32, was in the RMC emergency room Saturday morning when police received a call saying that he had punched a hospital technician in the face.

According to police, Metzler had arrived in the emergency room around 5:30 a.m. Saturday and started to yell at the nurse on duty.

Metzler was drunk and causing a scene, which led a 50-year-old man who works at the hospital as a patient care technician to try to stop him from shouting at the nurse, police said.

Metzler became even more enraged as the technician asked him to calm down and began to punch the technician in the face, according to Sgt. Fred Forsythe.

Police arrived on scene a couple of minutes later and arrested Metzler and charged him with a felony second-degree assault charge. Forsythe did not know why Metzler was in the ER to begin with.
