Re “I was there” (H. Brandt Ayers column, Sept. 5):

I was there at the Glenn Beck Honor America Rally. For those who were not interested enough to watch, the theme of the rally was drawn from the Declaration of Independence. It was not a civil rights theme.

There are enough good, rational-thinking black Americans and enough good, rational-thinking white Americans to deal with the present problem of civil rights. Star Publisher H. Brandt Ayers seems to be hung up on civil rights of the past. We need to be concerned about our civil rights that are being eroded today.

People are sick and tired of the gridlock in Washington. We need to consider a new way of doing things.

Our nation is so vulnerable to terrorists. A firm reliance on Divine Providence seems to be the only solution to our problems.
