Anniston investigators are searching for a shooter after a man showed up at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital Wednesday with a gunshot wound.

Police are also trying to figure out where the shooting occurred, Sgt. Fred Forsythe said Friday.

According to Forsythe, the 22-year-old victim arrived at the hospital around 11 p.m. Wednesday with a bullet wound in his left hand.

Police interviewed the victim’s girlfriend because the man was too heavily sedated to speak, Forsythe said

She drove the injured man to hospital after he came to her house and told her what had happened, Forsythe said.

The woman told police the victim didn’t remember where he was when someone shot him, only that he was surrounded by a large crowd of people.

The victim said he heard three gunshots ring out above the crowd of people, according to his girlfriend, who reported the details to police.

When he felt his fingers burning, he looked down and saw that a bullet had pierced his left hand, the victim told his girlfriend.

The victim went to his girlfriend’s house and asked her to drive him to the hospital.

Forsythe said police suspect the shooting may have happened near the 1900 block of Rocky Hollow Road in Anniston, because there had been a crowd of people surrounding the area that night around the same time the victim was shot.

Investigators are continuing to tract down leads on a suspect.
