Anniston police have arrested a second man in connection with the robbery of a Saks ABC store Wednesday afternoon. Cedric Young, 27, of Whistler, was arrested around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday on a felony first-degree robbery charge, police records show.

According to Sgt. Fred Forsythe, Young was patrolling the area around the ABC store off U.S. 431 in a what police believe was a getaway car – a red Mercury – while his accomplice, 18-year-old Trenton White, robbed the store.

A couple hours before police arrested Young, they charged White, a Gadsden resident, with attempted murder, firing a weapon into an occupied building, firing a weapon in to an occupied vehicle, and armed robbery.

Witnesses told police that at 5 p.m. Wednesday, White walked into the store with a handgun and demanded money, Lt. Rocky Stemen said. The man fled with an undetermined amount of cash. In the process, he fired a shot in the direction of the Exxon-Mobil gas station across the street from the ABC store. Two people were standing nearby when the bullet pierced the side of the gas station, Stemen said.

Then, according to Stemen, the man began to run the direction of Wildoak Drive, where he fired another shot at person in a car, striking the side of the vehicle.

Police said they found White hiding in the Woodchase neighborhood.

White and Young were being held in the Anniston City Jail Thursday. Forsythe said they will be transferred to the Calhoun County Jail sometime Thursday afternoon or Friday.

Young’s bond is set at $500,000, and White’s bond is $2.5 million.

There were two employees and two customers in the store at the time of the robbery.
