This is for those who enjoy reading about our local high school athletes since The Star won't recognize one of our favorite sons at Ranburne High, even refusing to do a story on him after his mother called with the information.

Remember Chase Whitley, area and regional all state in basketball 2006 and 2007? He also led us to a Class 2A state championship in baseball.

Playing baseball for Southern Union, he was part of the Southern Division championship team with a batting average of .427 and 64 RBIs as a freshman and a batting average of .412 and 59 RBIs as a sophomore.

While a junior at Troy University, he led the Trojans with a batting average of .364, 86 hits, 56 RBIs and 10 home runs.

Drafted by the New York Yankees in the 11th round and now a relief pitcher for the N.Y. Staten Island Yankees, who immediately put him to work, as of July 4 he had a record of five saves and a win.

Anniston Star, we feel slighted by you not giving this young man a feature write-up.
