I recently visited the Confederate and Native American Museum at the Janney Furnace Memorial Park in Ohatchee. The recently opened museum is filled with artifacts, weapons, articles of daily life, pictures, paintings and information detailing life in this area during the Civil War.

Our thanks go out to Calhoun County Commissioner Eli Henderson, Museum Director Tim Moon and Major Gen. (Ret.) Larry Lee, whose tireless efforts, along with dozens of volunteers, made this museum a reality. Thanks also to major contributors Frank Brickhouse and Leon Thomason, as well as many others who contributed items for display in the museum.

I urge everyone interested in the history of this area, our Southern heritage and American Indian ancestors to take time for a visit to this fine museum and park.
