Coach Anthony Grant said Thursday that 250-pound Carl Engstrom has signed with the Crimson Tide. Engstrom will play for the Swedish Under 20 national team in the European Championships in July.
He averaged 4.1 points and 6.0 rebounds last season for Sweden's Under 18 team.
Grant says Engstrom brings great size and physical play to the Tide's frontcourt and is very passionate about learning the game.
Alabama post players Justin Knox and Demetrius Jemison have announced plans to transfer, leaving the Tide with a shortage of big men.
