“Most ninth-graders have a limited vision of career options or a misguided idea of what happens on the job. This event gave my students an opportunity to find out ‘the real story’ behind their career interests,” said Lynne Burgess, the Commerce and Information Technology teacher for the school and organizer of the event.
Professionals from all over Calhoun County in professions ranging from a diesel mechanic to military service to chiropractor agreed to serve as advisers for a day and dedicated their time to allow students to conduct interviews about a specific career.
Pictured at left, White Plains High School students Modesty Thornton, Chace Oliver and Bryant Luis discussed career options with meteorologist Charles Daniel and athletic trainer Lane Patterson.
