Alabama Voters Against Lawsuit Abuse supports Attorney General Troy King in his fight against grasping trial lawyers who, as usual, want to stack the deck.

Alabama trial lawyers’ cagey dispute against drug manufacturers is as fierce as any war for street-corner territorial rights in a crack neighborhood, except for the shooting. It goes deep.

It’s a battle for the hearts, minds and pocketbooks of Alabama residents. As usual, the trial lawyer argument is false as the bottom of a trick trunk.

They want to sue Wal-Mart, CVS and other major pharmaceutical outlets for filling prescriptions with generic drugs rather than specific brands a doctor might order. And they want their local district attorney to certify them to sue on behalf of the state of Alabama.

In return, district attorney offices would receive a “commission,” which would go directly to their own office. It’s parasitic and self-serving: trial lawyers bring in huge bucks, DAs get a financial nod and the people of Alabama lose.

Citizens lose because there is no appreciable difference in generic drugs, save for reduced cost and the fact that costly lawsuit verdicts directly cause drug prices to increase. There’s no truthful way to deny it.
