Jacksonville State will host Presbyterian College’s men’s basketball team later this month as part of ESPN’s Bracket Buster series, university officials said today.

The game, set for Feb. 20 at 7 p.m., will bring the Blue Hose to Pete Mathews Coliseum for just the second-ever meeting between the teams.

Presbyterian is currently 4-19, with a 2-9 record in Big South Conference play. The Gamecocks are 10-11, tied for fifth place in the Ohio Valley Conference with a 6-5 record.

The Bracket Busters series pits mid-major conference teams around the country against in each other over two days in match-ups chosen by ESPN, the cable sports broadcaster. Many of the games are televised; the JSU-Presbyterian contest will not be.

JSU claimed a 102-78 victory over visiting Presbyterian in 1971.

The Bracket Busters arrangement sees the home team visiting their opponents on the road the following year. The Gamecocks are expected to travel to Clinton, S.C. to face Presbyterian sometime early in the 2010-11 season.

JSU in November won a return game 89-67 against Georgia Southern, the team’s 2009 Bracket Busters opponent.
